TUMBES
Tumbes Geographical Situation
It is situated in the Northern part of the Peruvian coast. This bordering region is the doorway to leave Peru and enter Ecuador. The Department or Region of Tumbes´ main attractions are its beautiful beaches which visitors come to enjoy each summer, as well as its forests and mangroves. Tumbes is the smallest department, as far as surface is concerned (4,659.20 km²). But, its geopolitical situation gives it a profile of first national order.
Geographical Relief
It is composed of an extensive plain cut by small terraces, dry gorges and hills, in the direction of the sea. Its shoreline presents a low coastline in its Northern sector, and towards the South, beaches with alternating little elevated cliffs. Its territory includes two altitudinal levels: Coast and maritime yunga.
