Calca is one of thirteen provinces in the Cusco Region, located in the heart of the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
August 14, is the traditional start of holiday from 15.00 with the entry of uprights with the best calqueña cavalry, brass band and dancing with fancy costume.
The 15th of August is the main day that begins with midnight mass, serenade of the Virgin with burning of firecrackers and sound of guns.
After the Mass, the holy procession leaves walking the streets from 3 pm.
On 16, Similarly Mass of entrance and at 3 pm the procession, the Virgin accompanied by a caravan of 14 saints led by the Child Jesus of Prague.
The festival was full of music, masked dancers, and more food and drink than you can keep track of. The names of the dances were Quechuan and many of them poked fun at the Spanish conquistadors.
