Chachapoyas, Mystery in the Mists (3 days / 2 nights)

The city of Chiclayo is this program’s departure point, travelling by night, on a bus, to the city of Chachapoyas and returning by the same route. It presents two of Amazonas´ main cultural and natural attractions: The Fortress of Kuélap; a majestic architectural work built by the Chachapoyas, on top of a high mountain. It is the mountainous jungle’s most imposing monumental complex, and it is surrounded by cliffs and precipices on three of its four sides. Inside its fortified walls of more than 20 meters high, it shelters 505 living quarters, the majority of which are of circular layout. Then, we will go to contemplate the famous and impressive Gocta’s Cataract; the fourth highest in the world, which is surrounded by exuberant nature. On the way, we’ll visit the picturesque village of Huancas , La Pitaya ’s Petroglyphs and the Archaeological Complex of Macro.

CHACHAPOYAS PROGRAM

• Night Departure Chiclayo / Chachapoyas (On a bus service)
• p.m.:           Assistance in Móvil Tours´ terminal, in the city of Chiclayo
• 7:30 p.m.:     Departure from Chiclayo , to head to the city of Chachapoyas , on a special bus service (9 hour trip).

DAY 01           Village of Huancas / City Tour of Chachapoyas

• 5:00 a.m.: Transfer from the bus station to the hotel
• Breakfast at the hotel, rest and free morning
• 2:00 p.m.: Transfer to the picturesque village of Huancas , where we will observe the handicrafted elaboration process of ceramic objects
• Tour to the impressive Sonche River Canyon
• Visit to the famous La Cusana Handicraft Workshop
• Return to Chachapoyas and city tour
• Transfer to the hotel
• Dinner on your own account.

DAY 02           Macro´s Archaeological Complex / Fortress of Kuélap

• Breakfast at the hotel
• 8:00 a.m.: Guided excursion to Macro’s Archaeological Complex
• Going by the picturesque villages of Nuevo Tingo, Choctamal and María
• Guided excursion to the Fortress of Kuélap
• Lunch on the way
• Return to the city of Chachapoyas and transfer to the hotel
• Dinner on your own account.

DAY 03           La Pitaya ’s Petroglyphs / Gocta’s Cataract

• Breakfast at the hotel
• Transfer to the village of Cocachimba
• Guided visit to La Pitaya ’s Petroglyphs
• Hike from Cocachimba to Gocta’s Cataract
• Observation of the cloud forest’s flora and fauna
• Lunch in the area
• Return to the city of Chachapoyas and transfer to the hotel or bus station.
